Call for Applications “33rd Batch of Backup Staff Dispatch Project”
Ritsumeikan’s Office for the Support of Post-Disaster Recovery has been conducting a “Backup Staff Dispatch Project” to send students to Tsunami-affected areas in the Tohoku region since December 2011 with the aim of learning issues through volunteer activities and interaction with the locals.
In this batch, we are going to build ODENSE No. 3 at the new temporary Taro michi-no eki (roadside station) site. It will be used as a temporary building for the farmers market until the completion of new michi-no eki buildings. Participants will have chances to interact with the locals and learn about the current situation of the area through the process of the construction of ODENSE No. 3.
The ODENSE Project, designed by Associate Professor Munemoto from College of Science and Engineering, has been implemented at two locations of Iwate Prefecture after the Great East Japan Earthquake to create common areas for the locals to gather.
The team for building ODENSE No. 3 will be a mixture of the 33rd batch participants and Architecture students from Dr. Munemoto’s Lab, Islamic University of Indonesia and National University of Laos.
We are calling for 8 volunteers to join the 33rd batch members for “Building ODENSE No. 3 at the new temporary michi-no eki”. No experience in building is required! You will be given an on-site guidance and helping each other.
If you are interested in seeing and learning about the recovery situation of the Tohoku region or are interested in the ODENSE project, apply today!
