How can we solve a conflict between ethnic groups within a country and help the country rebuild from the conflict? I address this question of “peacebuilding” from political science perspectives. With Bosnia and Herzegovina as a case study, I aim to provide insights into peacebuilding practices through analyses of social structures, institutions, and conditions that drive people to ethnonational political behaviors.

Conflicts take many lives and cause deep physical and psychological wounds to many people. While strong wishes for peace are essential for resolving conflicts, conflicts are not simple problems that are caused by “bad people” and can be solved by removing “the evils.” I believe that it is also important for peacebuilding to carefully explore the complex social causes of conflict, and that is a role of academic research.
