Professor David Satterwhite (Temple University Japan), was invited as a guest speaker in the Advanced Seminar of Professor. FRENCH Thomas William on April 21, 2025.
Professor Satterwhite (Temple University Japan) gave a highly engaging and insightful talk about his experiences living in Japan and Korea for many years, and his involvement with the South Korean democratization movement from the late 1970s.
His experiences and interactions with the leaders of the democratization movement were described within the context of South Korea’s transition from authoritarian military rule to democracy from the 1970s to 1990s.
The talk was a wonderful experience for the students and provided them incredibly valuable first-hand information about this momentous period of South Korean history. The talk also featured an analysis of recent rends in South Korean politics and a commentary on the progress of democratization in the country to date.
