Outline

After being selected to be a member of the “Global 30" internationalization project (project to promote a network for internationalization of universities) the College of International Relations, Ritsumeikan University, established the Global Studies Major in 2011 where students can graduate by taking courses in English. In March 2015, we will send off our first graduates (Early Graduation students graduated in March 2014).

Since the establishment of the College of International Relations in 1988, we have developed various international programs such as the Dual Undergraduate Degree Program. In addition to confronting unprecedented challenges with the establishment of an English-based degree program, we have achieved positive results in a wide range of areas such as educational methods, student support, and governance.

In conjunction with our first graduating class, we will invite to conduct a peer review the School of Political Science and Economics, Waseda University, which established its English-based Degree Studies September Admission Program (EDESSA) in 2010.

The start of the Top Global University Project is expected to advance the internationalization of universities, including the establishment of majors learned in English.
What kind of graduates did majors learned in English cultivate?
What did the establishment of majors learned in English bring to traditional schools?
What should future efforts be?

We will consider these questions from the efforts of both universities.
