What are the appealing and interesting points of Information Science and Engineering?
With the exponential growth of computational power and the abundance of real-time data, the field of information science has emerged as a cornerstone for empowering decision-makers. By leveraging cutting-edge methodologies, information scientists can extract actionable insights by analyzing large amounts of data that would be nearly impossible to analyze manually. Therefore, information science methods help in making informed decisions, thus enhancing efficiency and innovation in various fields.
How will the knowledge gained in the College of Information Science and Engineering be useful for students after graduation?
The courses provided by ISSE equip students with essential tools needed in the information science field, preparing them to solve real-world problems after graduation. Most of the courses are based on project-based learning, which simulates the challenges they are likely to face when they join the industry.
What are your expectations for new students entering the university? How would you like to see them progress during their time at the university?
I expect new students to have a high enthusiasm for learning new methods that can help them face the real-world challenges they might encounter after graduation, as well as understanding the science behind many information science applications we see around us daily. Additionally, I hope they will utilize their time in college efficiently to prepare themselves for their careers, not just on an academic level, but also by developing soft skills such as teamwork and presentation skills.
Please describe technologies that you find interesting now.
I find deep learning methods, especially Generative Pre-training Transformers, and autonomous driving very impressive, with many applications in the real world. Additionally, I think cloud and edge computing are exciting research areas as they will further enhance other artificial intelligence domains.
