What are the appealing and interesting points of Information Science and Engineering?

Information science and engineering is currently driving innovation in our civilization with technologies such as AI and social networks among others. Studying the concepts of information science and engineering provides unprecedented opportunities to participate in the transformation of our world for the better.

How will the knowledge gained in the College of Information Science and Engineering be useful for students after graduation?

Graduating from the College of information Science and engineering will bestow upon the student an analytic mindset, and the know-how for using and shaping modern tools of the digital age. Students will be capable of empowering people and society, by bringing to life new technologies with a potential for massive impact.

How is the College of Information Science and Engineering of Ritsumeikan University different from colleges with similar subjects in other universities? How would you describe its appeal in simple words?

The College of information science and engineering of Ritsumeikan university differentiates itself with hands-on teaching and its modern facilities that allow the students to acquire practical experience for the industry. In addition, the diverse background of students from around the world, enables familiarity with an international environment, and provide opportunities to broaden students’ world view.
Moreover, at Ritsumeikan University, Information science students can also take advantage of the various programs including startup competitions (RIMIX) and Incubators that foster an entrepreneurial environment

Please describe your major research, activities, and current research themes. (Itemize)

My research theme involves data extraction using natural language processing techniques to build knowledge graphs, and leverage network science and graph learning algorithms for the analysis and understanding of patterns in the extracted data, to make predictions. The current domain of focus is business to business networking.

What are your expectations for new students entering the university? How would you like to see them progress during their time at the university?

I expect new students to have an open mind, critical thinking, and the patience to learn the fundamentals thoroughly. Mastering the fundamentals with the proper mindset is the sure way toward future efficiency and becoming able to bring innovation in the technology industry or research domain.

Please describe technologies that you find interesting now.

I keep an eye on open and decentralized technologies, and their applications in social networks, tele-communications, and finances. I am also very curious about quantum computing and space travel
