ゼミレポート
このゼミの前身である「『世界から見る日本と日本から見る世界』あなたの考えって偏見じゃないですか？」では、高校生を含め4カ国から集まった学生達とともに、日本のアイデンティティをはじめ人権や道徳など幅広いトピックを取り上げ議論をした。そこでは、社会をより良いものにしていくために、個人個人が社会とどう関わるべきかを考えるきっかけを作ることや、多様な人達が共生する社会でイノベーションを生み出す事が大切であるという結論に至った。
しかし、現代社会では多様な背景を持つ人達の共生までは成し遂げているものの、そこからどのようなイノベーションが生まれているかという研究事例が少ない。よって、学生の半分が留学生で占められているAPUとの連携を行い、実際にどのような形で多文化共生がなされているのかを学ぶ機会を作った。連携ゼミでは、7カ国から計13人の学生が集まった。ゼミを運営するにあたり、メンバーが現状を正しく認識するだけではなく、各々が一個人として、どう社会や世界と関わり合うかを考えるきっかけとなることを目標にした。
中心的なテーマとして「私」「社会」の相互関係を「アイデンティティ」を通して理解することを定めた。「社会」や帰属する「私」を考える上での最大の障壁は、その支配構造を内部からはすぐに認識できないことにある。故に、まずは「脱構築」を図るべく、ハイデガーの存在論や社会的な「意味（現実）」がどのように形成されていくかを議論した。その結果、「ディスコース（言説）」と「事実」が組み合わさることで社会的な「意味」が生まれると定義し、この「意味」をめぐる闘争こそが「私」と「社会」の相互関係であるという結論に至った。例えば、「青い芝の会」が率いる運動は、障がい者を不憫な対象ではなく独立した力強い人々として「アイデンティファイ」し、メディアが生み出す障がい者像を解体しようとしていた。アイデンティティとは、「何で在るか」の問題ではなく「何になれるか」の問題なのである。そして「私」の行動一つ一つが「私」が何になれるかを決めている。当たり前の様に聞こえるが、これらの行動が積み重なって共感を得ていくと総じて「社会」の変革をもたらすのだ。これこそが「社会を変える事」であり、我々のいう「未来を創る」ことであるとの結論を得ることができた。
多様性を持った社会とは、個々人が異なる文化と歴史を持ちながら共生・共存していることを指す。そのような学生達が、まずは一つのゼミの中で共に自分達の価値観を分かち合い、議論する事によって、世界も私たちが今繋がっており、そして私たちの働きかけによってこれからも繋がり続けることを実感できた。英語と日本語を交互に使うゼミの前例がない為に、工夫点も沢山あったが、様々な助けとサポートによりこのようなゼミを実現できた。本ゼミのメンバーは、今後大学院進学や就職を経て、社会との接点が増え、様々な場所に飛び込んで考える機会を増やしていくと思う。立場や背景が異なる者といかに対話を重ね、どう自らの生き方を定めていくのか。このゼミで培った素地が活かされることを切に願う。

Various topics from human rights to ethics were picked up in the predecessor of this seminar ‘Looking at Japan from the World and the World from Japan’. As an result of the discussion including members from 4 states, including highschoolers, we had reached the conclusion that to improve society each individual must rethink their relationship with society, and create innovation in an ‘diverse’ environment.
However, although modern society has achieved the coexistence with diverse backgrounds, there has not been much research on how this will create innovation. Therefore, we had decided to corporate with APU, where half of the students are international, to gain an understanding of how multiculturalism is achieved. In this joint seminar we had 13 members from 7 states. The goal of this seminar was for each individual to think ‘how’ they can relate to ‘society’ and the world.
The central theme of this seminar was to understand the relationship between ‘I’ and ‘society’ through the concept of ‘Identity’. Yet the biggest barrier in understanding this relationship, is that we ourselves are inside of the structure of power. Thus, to escape and deconstruct such power we had studied Heidegger’s epistemology, and how ‘meaning’ is constructed within society. As a result, we had concluded that meaning is created through the combination of discourse and fact. Furthermore, the battle over meaning is the relationship between the individual and society. For example, when looking at the case of ‘Aoi-Shiba-no-Kai’ their movement had attempted to identify those with disabilities as a strong and independent, replacing the preexisting image of being a subject of pity. Thus, identity is the struggle of ‘what you can become’ and not ‘what you are’. And each action of the individual is what determines what you can become. Although this may seem obvious, it is the building up of these actions that create compassion, and in long term ‘change society. Thus, the actions we take now ‘create our future’.
A diverse society is a place where individuals with different historical and cultural backgrounds can coexist. This seminar itself provides the place to share these conflicting values, as well as providing connectivity. There were struggles to manage a seminar in two languages, that were overcome through corporation. The members of this seminar will experience working or maybe further studies, yet either ways will face moments where they need to think. Hopefully they will learn through these experiences and apply what they have learned in this seminar, to determine ‘how’ they will live.
