授業レポート#07

この授業では、中国語の中国経済の文献を使用して中国経済の現状と課題を学びます。日本人学生と中国人留学生および各国からの留学生、交換学生が一緒に勉強し交流することは、この授業の特徴です。この授業のテーマに沿って、学生が発表を行い、教員が学生の発表内容に対して解釈しコメントを行います。中国語を勉強している日本人学生と留学生、交換学生は、自分の故郷、中国の都市、中国人の生活と文化などを紹介し交流を深める。皆さんがこの授業を履修することを期待しています。

在这门课上，使用汉语版的中国经济文献学习中国经济的现状和课题。日本同学和中国留学生以及来自各国的留学生和交换学生一起学习交流是这门课的特点。学生将根据每堂课的题目进行发表，教员根据学生的发表内容进行讲解和点评。学习汉语的日本学生和留学生及交换学生通过介绍自己的家乡，中国的城市，中国人的生活和文化等加深交流。期待同学们选修这门课。

このゼミでは国際政治において紛争と協調をもたらす力学について考えます。国際関係では様々な文脈で、歴史分析と関連しつつ種々の理論が形成されてきました。テキストを読んでそれら思考の蓄積を理解することはこのゼミの重要な作業です。授業ではテキストの内容に関わる疑問点や課題を議論します。多様な分野の学生の参加による活発な議論を歓迎します。そのことで国際政治への理解が深まり、現実の事象への新たな視点が生まれることでしょう。

This seminar will consider the dynamics of conflict and cooperation in international politics. Various theories of international relations have been formed with historical analysis in multiple contexts. It is an essential task of this seminar to understand the accumulation of those thoughts by reading the textbook. The class will discuss questions and issues related to the textbook's content. We welcome lively discussions with the participation of students from diverse fields, which should deepen your understanding of international politics and give rise to new perspectives on actual events.

アジアの人たちと一緒に英語で学びませんか。このコースは、オンラインツールを使って、アジア（主に台湾）の大学生と共にチームとしてプロジェクトに取り組み、最終的に12月に台湾で開催されるアジア各国の学生が集うThe Asian Students Exchange Program (ASEP)に出席し、その成果について発表することを目的にデザインされています。アジアの仲間たちと一緒に発信してみませんか。ワクワクが止まらない学びの場となること間違いなし！

Would like to learn together with Asian students in English? This course is designed to work on the project with Asian students (mainly from Taiwan) as a team online, and to give a final presentation about the project in the international exchange meeting, the Asian Students Exchange Program (ASEP) in Taiwan in December. I am sure that the course will be one of the most exciting learning opportunities throughout your student’s life!

このコースでは、何気なく使っている言語が実は社会の多様な要因で影響を受けているということを知り、自分の言語の使用法や言語行動を分析して、クラスメートと考えを分かち合います。主に英語と日本語についてですが、集まった学生の出身国や背景、言語にも触れます。このコースで学生が楽しんでくれているのは、他のクラスメートと話し合いをする時間がとても多いことだと思います。醍醐味は学生同士の交流です。

In this course, students will learn various social aspects that influence their language use. They will analyze their own language behaviors and share their ideas with other classmates. Use of English and Japanese will be the main focus, but students will discuss use of other languages as well. There will be plenty of opportunities to communicate with and learn from other classmates. “I’m still in touch with the Japanese classmates from this course.” (international student testimonial)

この授業は、遠隔連携授業として、韓国の高麗大学、台湾の淡江大学、日本の早稲田大学と私たち立命館大学をつなぎ、国内外の大学と合同でグループワークや発表をします。これら4大学の授業実施時間が重なっているのを活用した、オンラインかつリアルタイムでの取り組みです。 この授業の最大の特徴は、韓国や台湾の他大学の学生とグループを編成し、多くの時間をディスカッションに費やせることです。全てのグループに4大学全員が散らばり、共通したテーマについてリサーチやプレゼンテーションに取り組みます。Liberal Arts Seminarは全てのクラスでメディア授業の形態を取っていますが、そのメリットを最大限に活かした取り組みの一つだと思います。

This class constitutes a remotely collaborative platform, connecting Ritsumeikan University with Korea University in South Korea, Tamkang University in Taiwan, and Waseda University in Japan. It provides an opportunity for group work and joint presentations with international universities. This class is delivered in real-time, online format, leveraging the synchronous class schedules of these four institutions. A defining characteristic of this course is the possibility for students to form cross-institutional groups with peers from South Korea and Taiwan, fostering extensive intercultural discourse. The Liberal Arts Seminar represents an optimal modality for realizing the full potential of media-based pedagogy.

葛飾北斎の描いた浮世絵の藍色がドイツ（プロイセン）由来であることを知っている人はどれだけいるだろうか？ シーボルトをはじめとして、日本の文化と科学にはドイツの影響が色濃く残っている。月に人間を送り込んだフォン・ブラウンは、ロンドンを攻撃したV2ロケットも設計したことを知っているだろうか？ この科目ではドイツ語圏の歴史、宗教、政治の流れに沿って、ドイツ語圏の文化、芸術、そして科学を概観していく。

Who knows that Katsushika Hokusai used Prussian blue to draw his Ukiyo-e? Influence of German and German people, such as Franz von Siebold, remains strong in the Japanese culture and science. Do you know Wernher von Braun who completed the mission to send human beings to the moon and also designed the V-2 missiles that hit London. By this seminar, you will be able to overview the culture, arts, and science in German-speaking regions by following their history, in which religion and politics are deeply involving.

この授業では、主に英語を題材にして、何故言語はそのような構造をしているのかを探ります。言語の構造は、人間の心の根底にある認知構造やプロセスを反映していると言われています。そのため、言語の構造を理解することは、私たちがものごとをどうとらえ、感じ、理解しているかを探ることに繋がります。この知識は語学力を向上させ、母国語や学習した外国語でより効果的なコミュニケーションを可能にします。また、言語学を学ぶと、それぞれ社会の文化的ニュアンス、歴史的変遷、社会的変動を理解することができます。さらに、言語学を理解すると、言葉の壁や文化の違いを乗り越え、より良い対人関係や異文化関係を育むことができるようになります。

This course aims to investigate the underlying reasons behind the structural organization of language, with a primary focus on the English language. It has been posited that the structure of language is indicative of the fundamental cognitive structures and processes of the human mind. Consequently, comprehending the linguistic framework enables us to go into the realms of perception, emotion, and cognition. The acquisition of this knowledge enhances our linguistic proficiency, facilitating more efficient communication in both our mother tongue and the foreign languages we study. Furthermore, any investigation in the field of linguistics yields insights on the cultural subtleties, historical transformations, and societal fluctuations of a given community. In addition, a comprehension of linguistics enables you to surmount language obstacles and cultural disparities, hence facilitating enhanced interpersonal and cross-cultural connections.

この授業では、イギリス英語で英国の経済開発問題の理解を深めます。英国は日本と同様に小さな島国ですが、1901 年には大英帝国として世界の四分の一を支配しています。その名残は、今も英連邦（Commonwealth）として機能し、EUからの離脱や国内での独立問題・移民問題なども抱えながらも、世界銀行、国連、ウクライナ支援、日本の外交戦略などへの影響力のみならず、世界の共通語英語の普及でもその役割は重要です。

英語で日本の宗教や文化を英語で伝えようとする際、単に日本語をそのまま英語に翻訳するだけでは、その真髄が伝わらないことがあります。例えば「八百万の神」をそのままEight million godsと訳しても間違いではありませんが、その心を伝えるには、言葉が生み出された歴史や文化を理解する必要があるでしょう。このゼミでは、京都を切り口に日本の文化や宗教を捉え、最終プロジェクトとして自分の心にうつる「京都」（Kyoto on My Mind）を動画で発信します。

When we describe Japanese religions and culture in English, literal translations may not be sufficient to achieve real comprehension. In this seminar, we will focus on Kyoto and pursue our own points of interest. You will then discuss and experiment with your ideas on how to explain these points in English. As your course project, you will create your own "Kyoto on My Mind" video.

本ゼミは異なる文化的背景を持つ学生同士でグループワークをするので、社会的ジレンマに関する知識を得るだけでなく、お互いの「ふつう」は元々違うのだということを学びながら、批判的思考を鍛える大変良い機会だと思います。また基本的にすべて英語でのゼミとなりますので、第二言語として英語を学習している学生は英語力の向上、留学を予定している学生はあらかじめ英語のゼミに慣れるのに良いトレーニングとなると思います。

This active-learning-based seminars gathering students who have various cultural backgrounds will provide good opportunities to get yourself learn knowledge of social dilemmas, re-recognize that we are different one another, and train ability to think things critically. Also, it would be helpful for students studying English as a second language to improve English skills and beneficial for students planing to go abroad to get used to seminars conducted in English beforehand.
