Ritsumeikan Junior and Senior High School

The history of Ritsumeikan Junior and Senior High School began in 1905 at its original location in the Hirokoji area. In 2025, the school proudly marked the milestone of its 120th anniversary. The long tradition of learning, built together with generations of students over the years, remains very much alive today as the foundation of our educational philosophy.

Grounded in traditions that have been carefully preserved throughout our long history, our school has continually evolved in response to the needs of each era. With an eye on the future society that our students will help shape, we place great importance on education that fosters both aspiration and practical competence. Through this approach, we have nurtured students who think independently, create new value, and contribute meaningfully to the future. As a result, we have sent forth many graduates who are now active in diverse fields across the world.

Our educational environment offers a wide range of opportunities designed to help each student reach their full potential. These include advanced science education supported by our designation as a Super Science High School (SSH) for a remarkable 25 consecutive years—the longest in Japan; global education based on educational partnerships with 20 schools across Asia and Europe; and rigorous academic programs that prepare students for admission to highly selective national universities and faculties of medicine, dentistry, and pharmaceutical sciences. In addition, student-led activities such as school trips, cultural festivals, and extracurricular programs provide invaluable opportunities for personal growth.

In 2025, we also opened MiLABO, a next-generation multipurpose laboratory, to further enhance our STEAM education. Through inquiry-based learning that encourages discussion, collaboration, and trial and error, students deepen their understanding while expanding their own possibilities.

Looking ahead, by making full use of the rich educational network of the Ritsumeikan Academy—including Ritsumeikan Primary School, our affiliated schools, Ritsumeikan University, and Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University—we are committed to remaining a school where every student feels secure in taking on new challenges and can grow in their own unique way.
