The ‘Thailand, Bangkok Training Program’ was held to learn about the roles and work of international organizations and government.
Overseas training in Bangkok, Thailand, from September 15, 2024 to September 21, 2024.
This unique overseas program of School of International Relations is coordinated by Prof. Sachiko Ishikawa, and the program aims to maintain and improve student’s motivation to work for international organizations while learning about the roles and work of international organizations, and importance of being in the field.

We visited the total of six organizations, and university such as UNHCR, UNICEF, UNESCAP, UNESCO, ACSDSD, and the Chulalongkorn University.
At the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), after receiving an explanation about the current situation regarding the refugee issues, the participants exchanged their opinions on solutions to these problems through a group discussion.

During the visit to UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund), the participants received an overview of the duties and challenges related to educational support. The students listened attentively while taking notes, and they actively asked questions.

At the ESCAP (United Nations Economic Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific), six staff members introduced the activities and missions of each department, and exchanged opinions with the students. The staff members sincerely answered students’ questions such as their careers, and it was a valuable experience for the students who are aiming to work for international organizations.

At Chulalongkorn University, we had group discussions on the theme of launching joint projects after the students from Ritsumeikan and Chulalongkorn University gave presentations that they prepared in advance. The students seemed nervous at first, but they got to know each other in a short while and actively exchanged their opinions.

In our session with ACSDSD (ASEAN Training Center for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue), we received a briefing on initiatives related to the SDGs and the current challenges and the students held a question-and-answer session and exchanged opinions.
Students from Chulalongkorn University, who had participated in activities the previous day, also joined in, resulting in a rich exchange of diverse perspectives.

During our time with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), we explored various topics related to the SDGs and associated activities. Through interactive games, we deepened our understanding of a wide range of themes, including environmental issues, education, and gender.

This wonderful training program was made possible by the network that Prof. Sachiko Ishikawa established during her time at UNHCR and JICA. Although this is the first time that this training program has been implemented as a regular curriculum this year, it was very meaningful with a diverse range of students regardless of nationality, major, or class.
