Event Report | OIC “Ask Us Anything: Summer Student Support Program”

The SSP OIC (Student Success Program – Osaka Ibaraki Campus) held the “Ask Us Anything: Summer Student Support Program”, an event for undergraduate students from Ritsumeikan University’s Osaka Ibaraki Campus on July 9 (Thursday) and July 13 (Monday) 2026! The event was held for students to discuss about matters like academics and general concerns with daily living. 16 students were supported through this event over the two days.

This event was held in OIC’s Room7 and Room8, rooms with glass walls, which enabled passersby to easily see the atmosphere inside the room. Posters containing information about the timetable for departments were posted outside the room as well as around the campus. This helped gather students who needed support in their studies and daily life.

In this event, the peer students received a wide range of consultations: from academics, part-time work, as well as their future such as going to graduate school or job-hunting. The consultations received were different per department. Students from the Department of Psychology were mainly asking in regards to tests and graduate studies. As some of the peer supporters are graduate students themselves, those who were asking about graduate studies were properly entertained. A number of international students were also supported during this event. Students from CRPS (Community and Regional Policy Science, the English counterpart to the College of Policy Science) and GLA (Global Liberal Arts) were supported when it came to Japanese class, part-time jobs, and their future prospects; from graduate school to looking for jobs in Japan and abroad. Some students even stayed after their concerns were addressed to have small talk with the peer supporters!

The event was promoted through Instagram with a combination of posts explaining about the event and stories posted during the day of the event.

Although this was only a two day event, this event was able to help more students with their problems compared to a similar event held last May. However, there are multiple suggestions that were given by peer supporters after the event. Main ones include: planning for each department rather than a general event, posting the atmosphere of the venue during the event to capture the environment for other students to see, and trying out new ways of promoting the event (like posting on Instagram reels) could help in improving the event become more successful!
