多文化共生社会カナダでの友人

　本校IMコースでは2021年度4月より、カナダでの留学を再開しており、コロナ禍での留学に対するお問い合わせを多くいただいております。

　まだまだ、留学プログラムを再開している学校の少ない中、定期的にコロナ禍の留学について情報を発信させていただくことも本校の果たすべき役割であると考え、生徒に協力してもらいながら、『IMコース　留学体験記』を掲載しております。

　この様な状況下でも，海外で頑張っている生徒の様子を覗いていただけると嬉しいです。

　さて、本日は多文化共生社会のカナダでの友人づくりについて、Fさんからリポートをしてもらいます。

　カナダといえば、世界でもトップレベルに移民が多い移民国家です。

　様々な人が混じり合いながら共生をしているカナダでは、多様性を様々な場面で感じることができます。

　今日は、Fさんの友人関係を通して、カナダの多様性や多文化共生の精神について覗いてみましょう。

Canada is well known as a country where a multicultural society is the norm, but when I actually came to Canada, it was more than I imagined.

There are two things that I have learned in this multicultural country.

The first is that there is a lot of respect for each other's culture and the way of thinking.

This is about everything like what you wear or what you think.

In fact, in my classes, everyone in the class expresses their own opinions and comments on others. Sometimes they argue with them, but they never forget to respect each other.

I don't think you can feel like this in Japan.

In Japan, there is a pre-determined idea of common sense and "normality", and people seem to live according to it. But in Canada, it is normal to be different and everyone has different ideas.

Secondly, I learned the world is really big.

My friends in the picture are from Pakistan, Nepal, Afghanistan and Canada, and they have many different backgrounds.

Some of my friends told me that they immigrated with their families because their home countries were in danger due to war or something.

Even though some of them are younger than me, I was really surprised to know that there are so many children who have had a hard time even talking to me, and at the same time I realized how I have been blessed.

It was really interesting to meet and talk with people I would never have had chances to meet in Japan, and I noticed things I didn't know and differences in thinking.

I think as the world becomes more global society, we will have more opportunities to meet people from different cultures.

I'm learning that we should not forget that it is natural to be different from each other and that’s because we are different, a new world is opening up to us.

　カナダ社会全体が大切にしている多様性を、学校生活の中でも感じることができている様ですね。

　ただ、相手の意見を聞くだけでなく、相手の立場を尊重しながらも自分の意見をしっかりと主張し、互いの妥結点を模索する。こんな毎日を過ごす中で、留学生もグローバル社会で必要とされるコミュケーション能力を磨いていくのだと感じました。

　まさに深いレベルでの異文化理解を実体験しているのだと嬉しくなりました。留学中の生徒達が、カナダの多様性にもまれる中で、どの様に自分の殻を破っていくのか、とても楽しみです。

　次回は、１年生で一足先に留学をスタートさせているIM理系の生徒達の様子についてリポートしたいと思います。IMコースで行っている理系プログラムについて紹介しますので、楽しみにしていてください。
