カナダのクラブ活動

　本校IMコースでは2021年度4月より、カナダでの留学を再開しており、コロナ禍での留学に対するお問い合わせを多くいただいております。

　まだまだ、留学プログラムを再開している学校の少ない中、定期的にコロナ禍の留学について情報を発信させていただくことも本校の果たすべき役割であると考え、生徒に協力してもらいながら、『IMコース　留学体験記』を掲載しております。

　この様な状況下でも，海外で頑張っている生徒の様子を覗いていただけると嬉しいです。

　さて、今日はNさんがカナダでの部活動の様子についてリポートをしてくれました。幸いNさんの留学しているエリアではクラブ活動が再開されていますが、エリアによってはまだ感染対策の一環としてクラブ活動の再開を見合わせている学校もあります。日本ではアメリカンフットボール部に所属しているNさん。どんな部活動をしているのでしょうか？

I am a member of the high school's Canadian football team. So, I’m going to talk about my football team. I belong to the grade 11 and the 12 senior teams. (The Grade 11 is the second year of Japanese high school, and the grade 12 is the third year of high school.) We practice only for 2 hours on weekdays, and games are basically on weekdays, so there is no negative effect on studying and you are free on weekends.

I was able to make the best friends on this team. They are really kind and interesting to me. Also, when I consult, they listen to me seriously. I take some of the same classes with them, so I can ask questions in the class. I promised to go shopping with them on the weekends. I will continue spending time with them

Compared to the level of American football, I think that of Japan is higher because Canadian club activities are seasonal, and they only join for two months a year. Also, unlike Japan, Canadian high school football doesn't have meetings or weight trainings, so I think teams in Japan are playing more completely. But the size and speed here are greater and there are also many beginners. I recommend people who haven’t played American football in Japan to try it.

Finally, I love this team. We already lost two games, but I proceeded to the playoff round and we will be the Sudbury Champion.

　Canadian foot ballチームに所属しているNさん。日本と比べて、カナダの部活動は時間も短く、週末もOFFと日本の部活動とはずいぶん様子が異なるようですね。Nさんも紹介してくれていますが、カナダでは１年間を通して、同じスポーツを行うということは通常ありません。基本的にはシーズンごとに異なる部活動に入るのが一般的なため、競技力の向上というよりも、経験の幅を広げたり、気分転換として楽しんだりするイメージが強いでしょう。日本で部活動を一生懸命している人にとっては、最初のうちは物足りなく感じるかもしれませんが、初心者でもハードルが低い状態で始めることができるので、見方を変えれば様々なスポーツに挑戦する良い機会になりますね。先輩達の中には、アイスホッケーやスキーなどカナダならではのスポーツに挑戦する人もいます。

　スポーツや音楽は英語以上の共通言語になります。もしも留学に行くことになったら、留学の初期にはぜひ部活動に入ることをお勧めします。Nさんのようにクラブ活動を通して、たくさんの友達を作ってみてください。
