ボランティアに挑戦

本校IMコースでは2021年度4月より、カナダでの留学を再開しており、コロナ禍での留学に対するお問い合わせを多くいただいております。

まだまだ、留学プログラムを再開している学校の少ない中、定期的にコロナ禍の留学について情報を発信させていただくことも本校の果たすべき役割であると考え、生徒に協力してもらいながら、『IMコース　留学体験記』を掲載しております。

この様な状況下でも，海外で頑張っている生徒の様子を覗いていただけると嬉しいです。

さて、今日はKさんが夏休みにチャレンジしたボランティアについてリポートをしてくれています。

日本では部活に、塾に、宿題に、、、忙しくあっという間に過ぎてしまう夏休みですが、カナダの夏休みはなんと２ヶ月間あります。その間、宿題もなければ、塾もありません。

夏休みを有意義に過ごそうと、様々なボランティアに参加したKさん。どんな楽しさや学びがあったのかをのぞいて見ましょう。

Why do I volunteer in Canada? Because these are good opportunities for me to communicate with people and make more new relationships during the coronavirus situation. Also, volunteering is one of my goals of study abroad.

I volunteered five times by cleaning the car for an elderly person who lives alone, babysitting, watering the plants to increase the greenery of my town, maintaining the health of the elderly people, and I found a new volunteering opportunity that is to teach math for 30 minutes every day to my new friends in school.

I felt there was a big hurdle to becoming a volunteer before, but actually joining it is easier and more fun than I thought. I don't think it’s necessary to do big things. Just helping other people such as friends, family, and neighbors. That will be great volunteering and expand our relationships.

In order to find volunteering opportunities, I asked my host family, neighbors, and talked to many people walking on the road. It’s a good way to find volunteers! You might be afraid to talk to people who you don’t know. but Canadians are so friendly and kind, so we can make friends so fast!

カナダでボランティアを行うことが、留学の１つの目標だったと語るKさん。自分から行動を起こし、留学の目標を１つ達成したことで、成長を感じるだけでなく、たくさんの人間関係を築くことができた様です。通りすがりの人に、ボランティアすることないかを尋ねるあたりが、非常に積極的で素晴らしいですね。

カナダで体験する異文化には様々なものがありますが、10代の若者のボランティア意識や、社会の課題に関する当事者意識の違いもまた「深いレベルの異文化理解」の例です。食べ物やファッション、言語だけでなく、様々な場面で日本との違いを実感してくれていると感じます。

これからもたくさんのボランティアに挑戦して、自分にとっても、周囲の人にとっても良い変化を生める様な人になっていって欲しいと願っています。
