June is the pride month where they are proud of especially LGBTQ2+.

To be honest I didn’t know that June is the pride month before I came to Canada.

I joined the event called “Walk a mile in their shoes” in Brace bridge, which was to support the LGBTQ2+ as a GSA member of my school. GSA is the community in school to support LGBTQ2+ as “ally” which are people who understand and support LGBTQ2+. We have meetings every Wednesday in lunch time and we talk about our story or discuss about GSA and LGBTQ2+. For example, “Why we need GSA?” or “Do you think we should tell our parents that we were in GSA?”. Also, we made the ally pins and bracelets to sell at the event.

At “Walk a mile in their shoes” people walked a mile to prevent the gender -based violence. Our GSA members walked in the town with our school flag whose background was painted rainbow. At the event a lot of people had the booth. There were not only our school GSA but also the other school in Huntsville. We sold a lot of ally pins that we made and the other pins to support LGBTQ2+. Finally, we earned $50. And we donated $50 to the organization of this event.

It was the wonderful opportunity for me to join this event. In Japan there is less event to protest the gender LGBTQ2+. I think it is important for us to express that we are ally to support a lot of people who can’t express and pride their selves because of the society. I realized that some families hang the LGBTQ2+ flag in front of their house or put the seal on the window. Moreover, our school have the LGBTQ2+ flag in front of our school.

In conclusion, we should learn more about LGBTQ2+ and understand about it. A lot of students express their selves in Canada, and I think it is because most of people have knowledge about it and understand about it. There are still a lot of people who don’t know about LGBTQ2+ and they don’t understand it. So, in my opinion people who know and understand about LGBTQ2+ have responsibilities to tell them about the issue. Moreover, people should use ally pins or flags to support LGBTQ2+ in Japan.
