Halloween is well known as a big event that is popular all over the world. When the day comes in Canada, towns and residential areas become spooky with many pumpkins and haunted decorations. Today I would like to introduce you to Halloween in Canada, which is different from Japan.

In Canada, most people wear fancy costumes such as ghosts and wizards. Look at the pretty costumes which my host sisters were wearing in the picture above! They dressed up as Loki from MARVEL, Cruella, and my 4-year-old host sister turned into a police officer :) I wore the dress of Wednesday from the Adams Family.

Many kids go “trick-or-treating” at night! They knock in front of the door and visit the neighborhood houses to get a lot of candies. They bring bags with them to get as many snacks as possible, and you can get as many candies as the bag fills up! In Japan, there isn't much culture of going to a neighbor's house to get them, so I was very excited when I first went there.

Halloween is also a big hit at school. Many students dressed up and went to school on that day. Even the teachers! I was surprised that some people wore costumes of Japanese anime characters such as Naruto. In addition, a haunted house was built at my school! Senior students became ghosts and threatened junior students. I enjoyed going inside with my classmates during the class. It was so scary!

How was it? Halloween is my favorite memory that I have had in Canada. I would recommend you come to Canada and experience the wonderful day!!
