Hello, my name is Thomas PALS. I am one of the English language professors in the College of Science and Engineering at Ritsumeikan University. My specialty is in education. More specifically, my degree is in materials and curriculum design. At Ritsumeikan, I have enjoyed making materials specifically for Science and Engineering students. In fact, all the materials you will use for your English related classes in the College of Science and Engineering have been made by your Ritsumeikan English teachers. This makes the English curriculum at Ritsumikan unique compared to other universities in Japan. Many of the skills you will learn in English class are directly related to your future as scientists and engineers. For example, all the reading and listening materials in your first semester are about science related topics. In addition to increasing your English language skills, you will develop real-world skills that are needed by scientists and engineers in any language. You will study about the scientific method and engineering process. You will learn how to find and evaluate resource materials using Internet. Finally, you will learn how to organize and express your ideas in written and spoken formats. I hope to see you in class soon.
